Ithaca's dining bargain is Little Thai House in Collegetown

We've talked any number of times about Little Thai House, the quick and inexpensive Thai eatery on Dryden Road in Collegetown. They've appeared on our Year-in-Review lists and Top Ten lists, they're featured in our Welcome to Ithaca feature, and they come up every time we talk about affordable lunch options. But, somehow, we've never given Little Thai House their very own review, until now. [more]

Mahogany Grill a snazzy place to dine in downtown Ithaca

This week, 14850 Dining is enjoying a meal on restaurant row at Mahogany Grill. This downtown eatery returns a beautiful restaurant space to the traditions started by Plums a few decades ago. A couple of incarnations later, Mahogany Grill brings a prime location back to a mellow dining feel, complete with attractive dark wood and brass highlights. [more]

Deep dish pizza at the Nines? Don't forget the corn nuggets!

This week the 14850 Dining Report is in Collegetown visiting an old stand-by, The Nines. This College Avenue pizzeria and bar is in an old firehouse building -- the new station number 9 was built next door -- and offers the area's finest deep-dish pizza, plus sandwiches and a few surprises. [more]

Downtown Ithaca's Asia Cuisine blends Korean and Japanese styles for a delicious meal

This week the 14850 Dining Report is in downtown Ithaca visiting Asia Cuisine. We've heard good things about this combination Korean and Japanese restaurant on the corner of Seneca and Aurora Streets not far from the Commons, and we finally got to check it out for ourselves. [more]

Tasty Thai food at Ithaca's Tamarind

Ithaca never seems to need more Thai restaurants in particular, or Asian restaurants in general, but sometimes a new one opens and is a quick success. This week, we're visiting Tamarind on Route 13. Just one of many Thai restaurants in Ithaca, this cozy restaurant that opened a little over a year ago offers good food at a reasonable price. [more]

Fresh and fast at Pita Pit in Collegetown

This week the 14850 Dining Report is visiting Pita Pit in Collegetown. This quick eatery on Dryden Road makes hot and cold sandwiches to order in white or whole wheat pitas, with your choice of a whole host of veggies. It's easy for vegetarians and carnivores alike to find something to enjoy here. [more]

Collegetown's new Green Cafe: Fresh and Fast

This week the 14850 Dining Report is in Collegetown exploring the new Green Cafe. This massively renovated former bank building hosts a cross between a modern college dining hall and an upscale urban cafe with several food counters around a hot and cold buffet. Green Cafe's cluster of food stations offer freshly prepared sushi, a variety of soups, homemade tofu, sandwiches and wraps, and a juice bar, but most people will gravitate toward the buffet. [more]

Collegetown's Carriage House offers great brunch and lunch, but for a price

This week the 14850 Dining Report is in Collegetown checking out the Carriage House Cafe on Stewart Avenue. We've visited recently for brunch and lunch, and the weekend brunch is when the Carriage House shines. The first-floor space in this beautifully restored 1850s building fills up every weekend, so plan on waiting a bit for a table if you come midday. [more]

On the Road: Fine food in bistro atmosphere at 242 in Providence

From time to time, the 14850 Dining Report has the opportunity to review a restaurant that's outside our usual Central New York bailiwick. This weekend we were pleased to visit Two Forty Two, or 242, one of several excellent restaurants in the burgeoning Federal Hill area of Providence, Rhode Island. [more]
